BLUE ECHO

Blue Echo is a public artwork that serves as a haunting reminder of the lost Blue Lake and wetlands that were destroyed by early colonisation in the Melbourne area. The artwork is constructed of steel and glass, and features a multi-layered photographic image within the glass, depicting an imagined wetland. The metal panels are cut with sections of a topographical map from the 1820s of North Melbourne, adding an historical layer to the piece. Complementing the visual elements, the artwork also features a soundscape of an imagined wetlands, immersing the viewer in the sensory experience of the once thriving ecosystem. The structure faces the location where the lake would have once been, emphasising the loss and encouraging reflection on our impact on the environment. Blue Echo is a powerful and thought-provoking work that aims to raise awareness and inspire action to protect our natural heritage.
