Against the Wind, an Immersive Meditation on Country
Against the Wind is an immersive installation that intertwines art, culture, and nature. This seven-channel video and sound work was created in collaboration with contemporary Indigenous dancers and choreographers Zoë Brown-Holten and Amelia O'Leary, creating an immersive experience that delves into the depths of relationships and connection to the Country.
Step into a space where strategically placed projections transport you into a world where the spirit of Country comes alive. Filmed on tommeginne lands in lutruwita/Tasmania, the primary projection embodies the artist standpoint. Complementing this are six custom-made structures, standing three meters tall and 1.5 meters wide, serving as projection surfaces for the mesmerizing movements choreographed by Zoë and Amelia. As you embark on this visual journey, you will be enveloped by a rich soundscape and the aromas of gum and wood.
Against the Wind beautifully and seamlessly blends technology, movement, and emotion, creating an extraordinary installation that invites audiences to experience the beauty and interconnectedness of the world around us.
